The Association of UK University Hospitals is the unified voice of university hospitals. We bring experts and organisations together to create a national forum, allowing members to share knowledge and best practice.

We translate the expertise of our members into a powerful collective force for change. The high-quality teaching and research conducted in their institutions puts their standard of patient care at the forefront of best practice. With their voice, we inform both government policy and the wider world to encourage better patient outcomes and ultimately improve the health of the UK.

The Association is led by Chief Executives of member Trusts and incorporates five affiliated groups, made of leaders in key aspects of the National Health Service:

The university hospital

University hospital Trusts are some of the largest and most complex institutions in the health service, caring for a significant part the population and offering cutting-edge specialist care.

The title of ‘university hospital’, also know as a teaching hospital, is bestowed by the Department of Health. The criteria for receiving this title includes membership of the Association of UK University Hospitals, which in turn requires significant interests in research and teaching, and strong links with a university.

If your institution is seeking to gain the status of university hospital or similar and would like to explore membership of the Association, please contact us.
