AUKUH welcomes the GMC's recommendations for the future regulation of medical education and training
9 March 2010
The Association of UK University Hospitals (AUKUH) have responded to the GMC review of the Future Regulation of Medical Education and Training. AUKUH particularly welcomes the proposed review of the quality assurance processes for the Foundation Programme, which provides an opportunity to sort out the anomalies related to current responsibilities in the first and second year of the foundation programme.
AUKUH is however cautious of recommendations 18 and 19 which pertain to EU and international graduates and locums.
Any approach to the regulation of international and EU medical graduates and their potential UK employers must be mindful of unintended consequences. AUKUH warns against creating barriers that would prevent the most experienced EU and international doctors from working in the UK.
