AUKUH have response to the DH Consultation on the draft NHS Constitution
17 October 2008
The Association of UK University Hospitals (AUKUH) and the Medical Schools Council welcomes the NHS Constitution. The consultation response outlines concerns that there should be greater recognition of the NHS having only finite resources, and that it is the responsibility of the clinician to ensure an accurate diagnosis.
Both organisations firmly believe that all NHS bodies and NHS-funded organisations should be legally required to take account of the NHS Constitution. In so doing, patients and staff will be able to identify what is expected of themselves, of NHS bodies and NHS-funded organisations, as well as clear statements of accountability.
