AUKUH response to 'The Future of the Medical Workforce' consultation
9 May 2007
The Association of UK University Hospitals (AUKUH) have responded to the NHS Employers Consultation 'The Future of the Medical Workforce'. AUKUH do not anticipate any major changes in the number of doctors members employ or the way they train or work as a result of planned reconfiguration.
However, all developments are being increasingly scrutinised in this regard and the cumulative effect is likely to be a reduction in Consultant and training grades and an increase in non-consultant career posts.
It seems likely that training and service will become more separate and that the training requirements for general practice and for specialist practice will become more clearly defined, leading to different methods of training.
