Good Doctors, Safer Patients
6 November 2007
The Association of UK University Hospitals (AUKUH) have responded to the Donaldson report on Good Doctors, Safer Patients. AUKUH agree that adopting the lesser standard of proof in adjudicating upon concerns about a doctor’s performance will allow for a wider review of medical performance issues and contribute to greater openness in publishing performance data.
However, it will be important in making this change to ensure that NHS and medical complaints procedures are clarified and standards set which limit where complaints about medical performance are examined. This is required to ensure a fair process for doctors and to manage sequential complainants dissatisfied by the NHS complaints process.
